
Oak Avenue Intermediate School is proud to announce that its Science Bowl team earned a top-five national ranking at the prestigious U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl (NSB), held in April in Washington, D.C.Led by their dedicated coach, Mrs. Shifter, the team of four talented students competed against top science students from across the country in a fast-paced, Jeopardy-style competition. The NSB challenges participants with rigorous questions spanning multiple scientific disciplines, including biology, chemistry, Earth and space science, physics, and mathematics.
Out of thousands of students participating nationwide, the Oak Avenue team tied for
5th place in the nation—a remarkable achievement that highlights their hard work, teamwork, and deep commitment to academic excellence.
In addition to competing, the students explored the historic city of Washington, D.C., visiting the Smithsonian museums, national monuments, and other landmarks during their unforgettable trip.
“We are incredibly proud of our Science Bowl team and Mrs. Shifter for representing Oak Avenue with such distinction on a national stage,” said Principal Jordan Lessem.
