Temple City High School’s Heliotech Solar Car Team shined bright in the spotlight as they were featured in a commercial produced by NBCU Local in collaboration with the U.S. Army! Over the course of two action-packed days, cameras rolled at the TCHS campus and the iconic Grand Prix of Long Beach, capturing the watt-age our students bring to the world of solar innovation.

The commercial showcases the incredible journey of our team—from engineering and building to racing their very own solar-powered car. But that’s not all—it also highlights the bright future the U.S. Army offers through STEM opportunities. US Army Reservist, Sgt Aguilar, a Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Specialist (talk about a powerhouse title!), visited our students in their workshop to learn more about their one-of-a-kind project. She even put the pedal to the metal and took the car for a spin!

Our students were absolute class acts—navigating interviews, camera crews, and their own nerves to share the amazing things they’ve learned and accomplished through the Heliotech program. 🎥🌞

The next day, it was mission STEM-possible as the team headed to the Grand Prix of Long Beach. There, they climbed into an Army vehicle, explored simulations, met the Army’s high-tech robotic dog, and saw firsthand the incredible advances the military is making in science and technology.

We couldn’t be prouder to see our program drive into the limelight and our students steering toward the future with such passion and poise. You may spot the commercial on Peacock's streaming app, scrolling social media or at the Youtube link below.
