🐯Hello, Longden Families.

We had another fantastic week of learning and fun at Longden!

🎼🎉🎂Let's all sing together:
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday, California,
Happy Birthday to you!🎉🎂🎼
This past Tuesday was such a fun day for our fourth graders as they celebrated California's 175th birthday! They took part in activities that helped them explore the state's fascinating history as the 31st state and its diverse culture. Everyone had a blast enjoying yummy treats during the classroom parties, and they even sang "Happy Birthday" to celebrate our amazing Golden State.

🎂🎈A huge shout-out to our wonderful PTA for bringing joy to our Tigers who have birthdays in August and September! The students had a great time picking out a book to keep and cherish. We’re so grateful for our amazing PTA and the incredible parent volunteers who help make our school a happier and brighter place with fun programs and activities. Thank you for all you do! Please support our students by joining the PTA today. Click here to join.

We have another exciting week planned for next week. Here's a quick sneak peek of the fun activities we’ve lined up:
  • Picture Day is this Thursday. This is a fantastic opportunity to capture your wonderful smiles. We can't wait to see you all looking your best.
  • We're so excited to announce that the Tiger Store will be having its grand opening on Tuesday and Wednesday! Be sure to ask your child about the fun incentives they chose with the Tiger Stripes they earned

🔔👉We need your assistance! Clothing must not disrupt school activities or compromise student safety. Open-toed shoes, sandals, flip-flops, slippers, shoes with wheels, Crocs, and similar footwear are not allowed. If a student's shoes cannot be worn during recess or physical education (PE), they should not be worn to school. Students wearing any of these types of footwear will be sent to the office, and their parents will be contacted. They will remain in the office until safe footwear is provided.

Students will visit the library with their teacher for book checkout.
During library orientation, we talk about how to take care of the books that are borrowed.
With your help, we can continue to provide the students with excellent books!
  • Make sure water bottles are sealed and kept away from the books in your backpack
  • Keep food away from your books
  • Always read your books with clean hands
  • Please do not write or draw in your books
  • Keep your books stored in a safe place
  • Turn pages carefully when you are reading your book
Students in TK - 1st grade may borrow one book.
Students in 2nd - 6th grade may borrow two books.
When your student returns a book, they can select a new book.
We are looking forward to a great year in the library!

Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

This month, we are focusing on a cause very dear to our hearts: supporting children and teenagers who may be experiencing thoughts of suicide. We know that behind every statistic is a real person—a loved one, a friend, or an entire community profoundly impacted by this struggle.

We understand that discussing suicide prevention is not just a matter for one month; it's a continuous journey that calls for our compassion, connection, and collaboration. We recognize that these conversations can be difficult and may stir up a mix of emotions. It’s so important to foster a warm and supportive environment where we can openly discuss these feelings. Here are some gentle ways to begin talking with your kids about this sensitive issue:
🗣️ Check-in: Ask your kids how they're really feeling.
👂 Listen: Be present without judgment. Often, what they need most is someone to listen.
💜 Share: Familiarize yourself and your teen with available mental health support services. Knowing where to turn for help is vital.

Call or text 988 to seek help from your nearest crisis center. 988 Lifeline is a 24-hour, free, and confidential suicide prevention hotline available to anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress. You can also visithttps://apa.org/topics/suicide to learn the warning signs and risk factors and how to support youth considering suicide.

PBIS
PBIS
Longden proudly shines as a recipient of the California PBIS Gold Recognition Award. With your help, we aim even higher as we strive for Platinum status!
What is PBIS?
PBIS is a proactive schoolwide framework emphasizing a consistent and positive culture, prioritizing prevention and positive reinforcement over reaction and punishment. At Longden, we expect our students and staff to embody our Tiger Code - be Kind, Safe, and Responsible. We acknowledge students who uphold Longden's Tiger Code and believe that all students deserve support in their journey toward becoming responsible and successful citizens.
How can you help?
We use positive reinforcement to encourage our students to be Kind, Safe, and Responsible. When students meet our expectations, they can earn Tiger Stripes, which they can redeem for incentives from our Tiger Store, run by our wonderful counselors, Ms. Kathy Betts & Mr. Danny Ramirez. If you would like to help, please consider purchasing items from the Tiger Store Amazon Wish List. You can browse & purchase from our wish list by clicking the button below.
Thank you for your support and generosity!

Food Allergies

Food Allergies

We need your support regarding the sharing of food or drinks.
The rise in food allergies among children means that even the tiniest exposure to allergens could be potentially severe or life-threatening. This year, we've seen an increase in students with various food allergies. Ensuring a safe environment for all students is more crucial than ever.
Here's how you can help make Longden safer for all students:
  • Please remind your child never to share their food and drinks with other students.
  • Please remind your child never to eat or drink anything offered to them by others.
  • Please remind your child to wash their hands before and after eating.
Your support for children with allergies is extremely valuable. Together, we can make a real difference and ensure the safety and well-being of all our students.
