Frequently Asked Questions

2023-2024 School Year

Parents and Guardians are advised to read our Parent Handbook for more information and details regarding our program.

  1. What are the hours of operation for the before and after school program?
    Elementary Schools (TK-6th) 6:45 am – 6:15 pm
Oak Ave Middle School (7th-8th) 7:00 pm – 6:00 pm

ELP is closed on all holidays listed on the TCUSD Student School Calendar.
Staff Development Day(s), Spring Break, and Summer Camps dates will be reviewed and specifics determined as the dates approach per school year.

  2. Is ELP offered at my school site?
Our program has been in operation since 1992 and is located on campus at five of our school sites, Cloverly, Emperor, La Rosa, Longden, and Oak Ave.

  3. Who are ELP staff?
Each school site consists of qualified Paraprofessionals and Child Care Instructors hired by the Temple City Unified School District. In addition, our Paraprofessionals and Instructors are CPR and First Aid Certified, trained in Mandated Child Abuse Reporting, and have ongoing professional development. We support continuous growth by assessing the needs of the staff members and providing professional development activities to enhance their growth.

  4. If the first day of school starts mid-August, why is the tuition a full monthly rate?
Parents can make a one-time payment or enroll in our 10-month payment plan.

One-Time Payment: parents who enroll in a one-time payment, pay for their child(ren)’s ELP tuition for the entire school year in full. This payment covers the one hundred eighty (180) calendar school days; it does not include Staff Development Days, Spring Break, Summer Camp, Drop-ins, or Late Pick-ups.

10- Month Payment Plan- parents who enroll in our monthly payment plan, pay for their child(ren)’s ELP tuition on a monthly basis. This payment divides the one hundred eighty (180) calendar school days into ten (10) equal monthly installments.

August 1st’s tuition payment covers program attendance both in August and September. Please review our ELP Tuition Webpage to see the dates each tuition payment covers.

For enrollment registration, it is recommended that parents pay using the online Procare platform or pay their fees with a money order. This will allow payments to be considered paid in full and expedited confirmation of space in our program can be granted.  Payments made with checks may take 7 to 13 business days to process and accounts are not considered paid until checks are fully processed. Space in our program is not confirmed until we have received both the online registration application and payment for registration, which includes the first month’s tuition.

  6. If I do not need care Monday- Friday, do you have a part-time program available?
Yes. Families may request a part-time schedule that will cover one (1) to two (2) set days a week at half the cost of the regular monthly tuition. Three (3) days or more per week is considered full-time enrollment.

  7. Do you offer any discounts for the school year?
Yes, families who enroll sibling(s) into our program will receive a 10% discount off the monthly tuition of the older sibling(s).

  8. Do you offer any discounts for TCUSD Employees?
Yes, if a parent is a permanent employee in our district, we offer a 20% discount on the monthly tuition. This discount cannot be combined with any other discounts (i.e. sibling).

  9. Do you offer any financial assistance for low-income families?
Our program works in conjunction with Options for Learning.
If a family qualifies through Options for Learning, our program will agree to accept the subsidized payment from them.

Once a family has been approved, and space is available in our program, we would require a one-month tuition deposit (at the time of enrollment). This amount can be refunded at the end of the school year, once all payments have been received from Options.

ELP does not have any influence on policies or procedures for qualifications or their waitlist/timeline. Please visit their website at: https://www.optionsforlearning.org/ or call 626-856-5900 to speak with a referral specialist.

Families with an open case with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) may be eligible for tuition assistance through DCFS. Please contact your Childcare Specialist or child’s Social Worker for more information.

Our website is full of information. Please review our Parent Handbook, ELP Registration Page, and/or Tuition Schedule Page.

We can also be reached by emailing elp@tcusd.net

Emailing us is the main form of communication because ELP staff may not always be in the office. We are often visiting various ELP classrooms at our different school sites. We may not always be able to be reached by phone but always have access to emails.
