Principal's Message

Welcome Back to the Temple City Virtual Academy.

Hope everyone enjoyed a restful winter break. As a virtual school, our staff is able to teach remotely just as you are able to learn remotely. However, we realize that families still have concerns about health and safety due to COVID.

TCUSD will continue to offer testing at the District office on Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons from 2-6 pm. This testing is available for all students and staff. This applies to our TC Virtual Academy students as well.

If you are taking classes in person or attending other activities at the school sites, all previous safety measures will still be followed.

With the rise of the omicron variant, the rise for testing will also increase therefore we are asking all our students to create a Privit portal account to streamline the testing process, if and when testing is needed. Having a portal account will increase the speed of the District testing process to ensure that all of our families get serviced in a timely manner.

The current safety measures we are following and directions for creating a Privit portal account at tcusd.e-ppe.com are outlined in Dr. Fricker’s message to the Temple City Unified School District

As we enter 2022, we will continue to offer all families the choice of a virtual school setting.  Early in the Spring we will be opening enrollment for the 2022-23 school year.  We intend to provide a virtual setting for teaching and learning into the future.

The Temple City Virtual Academy is a mix of Independent Study with teacher guided lessons and support while students remain at home. The TC Virtual Academy offers a remote online, flexible yet rigorous learning environment. Temple City Unified is committed to addressing the needs of students who may want to remain virtual for health reasons but also those who have thrived in virtual learning. Online learning provides a combination of structure and freedom. With a mix of synchronous and independent work our students are learning skills they will carry with them throughout their lifetime.  In addition to academics, we will build on the communication and collaboration skills learned this past year and will provide the social and emotional support in a remote environment.

As we return to school, we will continue to partner with you to create a learning experience that meets the needs of all families in a virtual environment.  We will still experience challenges and memorable experiences, yet we have seen already that we are resilient. We will continue to commit to provide the rigor and academic excellence our students deserve.  In our partnership we ask that parents establish clear expectations and set realistic goals for your child. It is very important to create a proper learning environment and encourage active participation and engagement in online activities. Successful students have a quiet learning space free of distractions such as cell phone, games, television etc. When in a synchronous class with the teacher and other students we expect respect and engagement with the computer camera on.

As always if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at tcvirtualacademy@tcusd.net

Stay safe,

Susan Hemans
