About Health Services

  • The Health Services Department consists of one full-time Registered School Nurse, assisted by clerical health aides at each of the schools.

The Health Services staff is responsible for the vision and hearing screenings for all of the students who attend school in our District as well as periodic screenings for pediculosis (head lice). They also conduct scoliosis screenings for the 7th grade girls and 8th grade boys, along with educating the 4th grade girls and the 5th and 6th grade girls and boys in the area of family life.

The Health Services staff makes sure that all children entering our District from other districts or enrolling in kindergarten have had all of the necessary immunizations required by the State of California for school entry as well as making sure that all 1st graders receive their mandated CHDP (Child Health and Disability Prevention Program) exams.

On a daily basis the Health Services staff deals with an array of bumps, bruises, and scrapes in addition to making important decisions and administering treatment during medical emergencies. The nursing staff is also in charge of administering medications to students attending our schools that are required to take medication during the school day.

With approximately 5,700 students currently enrolled in our District, the Health Services department is kept busy attending to the students needs. They always put the safety and well being of the students in the Temple City Unified School District first.

Looking for Mental Health Support?

Temple City Unified School District is pleased to partner with Hazel Mental Health Services for the remainder of the 2023-2-024 school year.  Hazel Health is offering counseling services at no cost to student’s families. This no cost mental health service is made possible by a grant through the Los Angeles County Office of Education. Temple City Unified along Hazel Health wants to ensure that students have overall access in school to the support they need to address mental health concerns. Lastly, this initiative not only contributes to the well-being of individual students but also fosters a positive and supportive school community.
