CDE Guidelines

The California Department of Education Nutrition Services Division is very pleased to announce that on June 25, 2020, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released Nationwide Waivers that provided multiple waiver extensions and a new waiver for school yeat (SY) 2020-21.

  • COVID-19: Child Nutrition Repsonse #33, National Waiver to Allow Non-congregate Feeding in the Child Nutrition Programs-EXTENTION #2. This waiver is effective July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.
  • COVID-19: Child Nutrition Response #34, Nationwide Waiver to Allow Meal Service Time Flexibility in the NSLP, SBP, and CACFP-EXTENTION #2. This waiver is effective July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2021.
  • COVID-19: Child Nutrition Response #35, Nationwide waiver to allow Parents and Guardians to Pick-up Meals for Children-EXTENTION #2. This waiver is effective July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.
  • COVID-19: Child Nutrition Repsonse #36, National waiver to allow Meal Pattern Flexibility in the Child Nutrition Programs-Extension #4. Program operators must maintain and meet nutritional standards for each program to the greatest extent possible. The meal pattern flexibility application is located at,https://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/nu/cnpcov19waiverextension.aspPlease note, the waiver application is the notification to the CDE of your intent. This waiver is effective July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.
  • NEW-COVID-19: Child Nutrition Response #37, Nationwide waiver to allow Offer Versus Serve Flexibility for Senior High Schools in the NSLP for SY 2020-21. This waives the offer versus serve requirement for senior high schools. This waiver is effective July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2021.
