Tdap Information
California law requires that every student attending California school show evidence of being protected against certain diseases. Exception to this requirement is made if the immunization of TB test is against a parent of guardian’s personal belief and the parent signs a written statement at the school office or a physician advises that it is medically inadvisable for the student to receive the immunization or TB test and a written statement from the physician is filed with the school that includes the type of immunization exempted and the probable duration of the medical exemption.

Child Health and Disability Prevention
California law requires that all children entering first grade have received a comprehensive health screening within 18 months prior to or within 90 days after entering first grade.* The health evaluation is intended to detect potential problems and arrange for early care if needed.
Our school district offers vision and hearing screening examination only. The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services also provides services at no cost if the family is unable to obtain services from a private doctor or health plan, and the family’s income falls within the eligibility guidelines.
Studies have shown that health problems interfere with the young child’s learning and adjustment at school. Health checkups can often detect these problems early before they become serious or chronic and when treatment may be more effective and save the family medical costs. Remember that prevention is priceless but curing is costly. We urge you to have this screening program completed during the Kindergarten year.
Low cost or no cost health examinations may be obtained at the following locations:

Seventh Grade Entry Requirements
Students entering 7th grade in public and private schools are required to have had their three Hepatitis B, two MMR, and Varicella immunizations. The school will ask to see your child’s immunization record as proof of immunization. If your child had Chickenpox disease (Varicella) disease, ask your doctor to note it on the immunization record to meet the requirement. This change in requirement will ensure that California preteens will be protected from the potential dangers of Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Chickenpox. And because Hepatitis B shots must be spaced several months apart, it is important to have your preteen visit his/her doctor now to start the series and get the second MMR shot.
CHILDREN WHO HAVE NOT STARTED THEIR HEPATITIS B SHOTS AND RECEIVED THE SECOND MMR OR VARICELLA BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF SEVENTH GRADE WILL BE EXCLUDED FROM SCHOOL.
Exemption provisions of the California school immunization law for medical reasons or personal beliefs will apply to this requirement. Please contact your school’s health assistant for details about exemptions.
Below is a listing of health offices in the area. They provide Hepatitis B, MMR, and Varicella shots to individuals under the age of 18.
