My name is Mrs. Scanlan and I will be one of the new VAPA teachers this year with a focus on Elementary Theatre and Dance! This is a dream come true for me. I have worked in Temple City for the past 8 years and have taught 4th Grade at Emperor for the past 6 of those years. I have loved bringing the arts into my general education classroom through singing and dancing academic curriculum, and also ran an after school tap club at Emperor and directed the Emperor Talent Show! In addition to my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, I also have a BFA In Musical Theatre. It has always been a dream of mine to combine these two degrees and I cannot wait to see the magic created by our students come to life! When I’m not teaching, you can find me running with my dog Bodie, reading, making flower arrangements, chasing around my 3 year old daughter Sophie, and participating in community musical theatre! I’m so excited for this new opportunity for our students and appreciate all of your support in this new program for Temple City elementary students!

Mr. Gilbert

My name is Mr. Gilbert (Mr. G) and I will be one of our new VAPA teachers for the year with a focus on elementary music and performance. I have worked as an instructor and coach in Temple City since 2020, starting as an instructor at Temple City HS for the marching and percussion program. I have worked with over 8 different high schools and middle schools in Southern California as a music instructor specializing in percussion

performance and education. I have spent the last two years working at Emperor Elementary as a long-term substitute teacher and RTI teacher. Besides music, I really enjoy running, hiking, and reading fiction books! I am so excited to start this program and share my love of music with our elementary students in Temple City.

My name is Ms. Seery and I will be one of the new VAPA teachers with a focus on visual arts. I am a Temple City Alumni and I am super excited to be working in the district I went to school in. I have a multiple subject teaching credential and worked as a substitute teacher for the past year. I have a great appreciation for visual arts and love

to express myself through fun art projects. Besides art, I really enjoy reading, yoga, and spending time with my husky Harley. I’m elated for this opportunity to share my love of visual arts with our elementary students and to help them freely explore their artistic expression.

Ms. Truong

My name is Ms. Truong and I am one of the VAPA teachers for this year with a focus on elementary music and performance. I’ve been playing flute and piano since my own elementary days, and my musical journey has broadened to include low brass, ukulele, guitar, and some percussion through my involvement with the marching arts and my own personal songwriting exploration. Since 2015, I’ve taught high school marching band at various campuses across the San Diego, Orange, and LA counties. Though I graduated from UCSD with a degree in literature/writing, I’ve been teaching and tutoring concurrently with most of my working life — from private lessons for beginners to world class independent ensembles. Outside of school, I enjoy photography, swimming, and hosting jams. I am very excited to be teaching at Longden and share my passion for creative exploration and expression through music!
